Managing Credit Card
Re: Managing Credit Card
Hello,
I am just learning to use iCompta but I can't find a way to associate the bank payment to the VISA provider with the VISA account I have set up. The VISA provider just lists all the credit cards transactions every time I use my VISA, and then on the 15th (or 16th) of each month that sum is detracted from my bank account.
I have added my credit card to my bank account, and I have created a separate account to hold my VISA transactions as reported by the external provider, and even if I marked all repayments using the credit card number, I don't see any indication that my VISA expenses have been "reconciled" by the bank. My VISA account is still marked as "red".
In other words, I believe I have not set up correctly my environment to properly map my credit card to my bank account, and I could not see any detailed documentation about this basic use case.
Thanks in advance for your feedback and best regards,
Giovanni

Re: Managing Credit Card
You need to make a transfer from the VISA account to the main account every month so that the VISA account balance reset to 0.
Re: Managing Credit Card
Thanks a lot for your reply.
The point is that any bank account linked to a credit card will have a transaction like that, like in my case. If you still have to generate a transaction on the VISA side, what's the point of including credit cards in bank accounts? As I wrote, I marked my VISA payment on the bank side as a payment related to my credit card, but I'm not sure what's the point of doing that. What's even stranger, is that I can link a credit card to my credit card account... Again, I'm not sure what's the point of that feature.
I would expect that you could generate the VISA-side transfer from its "mirror entry" on the bank side. As a matter of fact, credit card payments show up either on the bank side (like with my two VISAs) or also on the credit card side (like with AMEX), but you won't find any case when there's no existing bank transaction (unless, obviously, you're really not repaying your VISA but then a software program won't solve your real problems by adding fictitious transactions...
).
The only required manual operation would be selecting which VISA transactions are included in a bank transaction, but once you sorted out past transactions, new transactions could default to being mapped to the outstanding VISA charges.
I understand that for 15€ this software does already a lot, but what I find annoying is that there are several "obscure" features (like nested credit cards and accounts in multiple currencies) while there's a lack of other basic features (like a semi-automated credit card management and currencies for single transactions).
Thanks again and best regards,
Giovanni

You have to reset the balance of the VISA account to 0 so you need that transaction, otherwise your balance will be false. The deferred debit is a transfer between your main account and your VISA account.gsarbia wrote:The point is that any bank account linked to a credit card will have a transaction like that, like in my case. The cards list in the account editing window is used to make autocompletion suggestions for the information field of the transaction, it has nothing to do with deferred debit.
You can generate both sides of the transfer by using the "Make deferred debit" menu item on the VISA account.gsarbia wrote:I would expect that you could generate the VISA-side transfer from its "mirror entry" on the bank side.
