How are Budget Surpluses and Deficits Calculated?

When a budget says "$xxx over spent" or "$xxx remaining" how are those figures calculated?
For example at the end of September the numbers in my budget looked like this...
Income: $3,871.46 / $3,475
Expense: $3,974.46 / $3,532.91
.. and it says I overspent by $141.55. Obvious I did overspend but not by that amount according to the high-level information listed at the top of the Income and Expense lists. No matter which of the above values I subtract from one another I cannot come up with that number.
How does iCompta calculate the overall state of the budget?
