Thanks for the “how-to” for setting synchronization options.
Weirdly, the “synchronize automatically in the background“ box was already checked, but after I left that screen, synchronization started working again, even when I was in the middle of a reconciliation. So I can still adjust transactions on the iPhone instead of canceling reconciliation, fixing a transaction, and then starting reconciliation all over again. A tremendous relief.
