on the Mac, I use categories nested 2 levels (category - subcategory).
sometimes if I "deselect all" in the main menu, it does not deselect an explicit selection I made in one of the submenus.

Yes deselect all only works in the current menu currently and doesn't go deeper in the hierarchy.
