Import new Pocketmoney database into iCompta 6

Post by Tdalke »

Since the owner of Pocketmoney purchased the source for iCompta then rebranded it as Pocketmoney 2.0, can the new Pocketmoney database be imported directly into iCompta?

Does iCompta have adware like the new Pocketmoney?

Does anyone know the difference between Pocketmoney and iCompta?

Thx

I was able to transfer my database with 12 years of transactions from Pocketmoney to iCompta using Navicat for SQLite and everything looks fine.

Great that there is no adware. I also like the color scheme better.

Thanks!

I was able to transfer my data by going to the main settings page of PocketMoney, clicked on ‘Web Server’ (watched the short ad), and then followed the directions to link to my pc to export a QIF file to my computer. Then I did the same from iCompta to import the QIF file.

So far, the main difference I’ve been able to tell between the two apps is that iCompta has a free version, and a $3.99 one time paid version. No subscription or ads.

I tried the different files import but the transfers didn’t come through correctly but they did with the database sync.

Do you guys have any idea if PM 2 will be kept more updated than iCompta?

I was a PocketMoney user since 2005 and I am very disappointed with its current developer.

I cannot speak for the owner of iCompta, but I have the feeling that iCompta will be better supported and will always be ahead of PocketMoney with updates and features.

The reasons that I dumped PocketMoney and bought iCompta:

1) Original developer and will have a better understanding of the app structure and logic
2) No ads
3) Includes professional features without any up sell
4) One time purchase instead of monthly fees forever
5) Better color scheme
6) GT at PocketMoney was very unethical and basically stole the PM app from me and thousands of other PocketMoney users without any warning.

A few things I wish iCompta had that PocketMoney did:
1) Total net worth chart
2) Automatically scroll to today’s date in the register when account is opened
3) Category automatically filled in when typing first few characters instead of selecting from list
4) Better auto fill when creating a transaction
5) Customizable user interface (font size, colors, etc.)

Thx

I am writing this from memory but I think this is what I did.... Let me know if it works. Make backups of your critical PocketMoney files before trying.

0) Create a sample document with iCompta Lite or full iCompta and then delete all of the accounts that were created in the sample document.
1) Synchronize the document to DropBox
2) On MAC browse to /Users/yourname/Dropbox/Apps/iCompta 6/Synchronization
3) Extract the .cdb from the zip file
4) Backup your Pocketmoney document to Dropbox
5) Extract the .pmdb from the zip file
6) Change extension of the .pmdb file to .cdb
7) Download Navicat for SQLite trial from https://www.navicat.com/en/download/navicat-for-sqlite
8) Install Navicat and open the application
9) Navicat -> New Connection -> SQLite -> Existing Database File and open iCompta .cdb file
10) Navicat -> New Connection -> SQLite -> Existing Database File and open PocketMoney .cdb file
11) Navicat -> Tools -> Data Synchronization
12) Source connection PocketMoney .cdb Database main
13) Target connection iCompta .cdb Database main
14) Next
15) Next
16) Deploy
17) Execute
18) Close Navicat
19) Overwrite the iCompta .cdb file in the zip backup with the synchronized iCompta .cdb file
20) Open iCompta on iPhone and create a new document from Dropbox and choose the document that was synchronized.

Happy New Year!

It worked like a charm. Thank you very much, Tdalke.

I am definitely moving to iCompta. I hope Angeman to keep doing his good job and now to start taking advantage of this huge and magnific group of PM users.

11) Navicat -> Tools -> Data Synchronization
12) Source connection PocketMoney .cdb Database main
13) Target connection iCompta .cdb Database main
14) Next
15) Next
16) Deploy
17) Execute
When I do above steps in Navicat, there is an option to tie data fields (or tables from PocketMoney (Source) to data fields from iCompta (Target).
It is not clear for me whether to check all the options and which fields from PocketMoney I have to connect to which fields from iCompta.
Am I doing something wrong? Can you assist me?
Assistance in French is fine for me as well.

Thanks in advance,

Jörg
