Categories and subcategories

I've been trying to create subcategories of a given category, but after several attempts I give up. How can you create a subcategory for say the category Salary. I've been playing with types and groups to no avail. The guide doesn't say much about this. Could you explain it for me? Thanks

It's a good thing to know French as well as English. I have found in the French forum how to move a category into a group. Bon. Ça suffit.
