Synchronizing two data files

Post by Aguilberto Junior »

Hi Cyril!

I have one icompta file for controlling my accounts, which I sync using iCloud to use on other devices, and another one for testing, which I only use locally.
How do I sync the two files independently using iCloud?
Is it still better to synchronize using Dropbox, despite the improvements that have happened in iCloud lately?

Thanks in advance!

It's the exact same way to synchronize for both files, as a reminder you can check "Step by step to activate Dropbox or iCloud synchronization" here : http://www.icompta-app.com/help.php?sys ... ronization.
Before doing that can you confirm that you created the test file from scratch, and not by duplicating your real file ?

Thanks for you answer!

Is this the way I have to do it?

1) Delete the data that is in iCloud.

2) Create a copy of my real iCompta file and give it another name, which will be the file for testing. Now I have 2 identical files, but with different names.

3) Enable iCloud sync on each of the files in iCompta.

Now, when I open iCompta on the iPhone or iPad, both files will appear and I choose which one I want to open.

Ok so both files have the same synchronization identifier now with the way you did it and everything will be messed up if you enable synchronization. Can you send me your test file by email so I can change its internal synchronization identifier and then send it back to you ?

Now I get it!
I didn't know that doing it this way both files will have the same synchronization identifier.
I think it is better to create a new test file from scratch and import data from my real file to do the tests.

Thank you very much for your help!

Cyril,

One more thing...

How should I do to import all the data from the real file into the test file, which I created from scratch and has another synchronization identifier?

You can't just import all data from another file, it's not that simple. That's why I was proposing you to change the internal synchronization identifier directly for you, that would be quicker and easier. I don't remember, do you have the macOS version as well ?

I use iCompta on these platforms:

- macOS Monterey 12.5.1
- iPadOS 15.6.1
- iOS 15.6.1

Ok so you can do it yourself on iCompta on the Mac. Inside iCompta (not in the Finder) use File > Duplicate menu item. This way the internal synchronization identifier will be changed.
