Controlling tax expenses

I'm trying to find a way to control my tax expenses using the "Taxes Category" field in transaction splits.
Is it possible to create a Splits Report grouping expenses by Period > Category > Taxes Category, so that I can view the total taxes for each category in a period.
Or do you have any other suggestions for controlling tax expenses?
