Debts with friends

Post by jocker_boy »

Hello,

I don't know how to control this.
For example:

My Friend (A) bought a gift for my Friend (B) and the cost of the gift is 50€.
So i have to pay 25€ to my friend (A).
But i also want to control this and add to the category "gifts" that i create.
How can i do this?

What i have done is:

1º Create Friend (A) in people.
2º In Friend (A) add one transaction in the value of 25€ to ME
3º It shows that i have to pay 25€ to my friend (A)
4º Then i go to my account and add a transfer in the value of 25€ to my friend (A)
5º Now i don't have the 25€ debt to my friend.

This is how i do, but in this i can't add this to one category.
And so in the resume don't show this value.

Can someone help me?

Sorry for my english.

I find I am often making short and some LONG term loans to the kids and I also owe people a share of something.
What I have found easiest to do is set up a "Loan Account" for that person.
Then when they pay money to you, you just do a transfer from their loan account to your receiving account (cash or bank account etc).
When you pay money to them - another transfer from you to them. This way everything stays in balance nicely - and you can easily check who owes you money!

You can add a category to the payback transaction now in V5.

But what about this case whitout a payback:
A friend lent me 100€. I bought a gift and he owes me 25€.
i get +25€ in the category of this transaction.
In the cash overview still stands: "has lent you 100€".
the balance should be 75€.

That's because the gift you bought should a transfer to your friend's account.

OK thanks i understand.
But when i bought a gift (50%/50%) how i add this split?

50% Transfer to the other person
and 50% on the category "gifts".

the balance/amount ist correct. my category changed about these 50%.
but i get also the 50% in my splits report or overview declared as "none".
is this correct? the other 50% should not be in my stats?

You can assign both a category and a linked account in a split. So by default when you make a transfer the transfer split has no category set but you can add one.

That said, you actually only spent 50% of the gift. The other 50% are money you are lending to your friend and thus shouldn't appear in your report. Currently they are appearing as "None" but it would be better in my opinion if they didn't appear at all. In order to do that you have to double click on your report and the condition "The linked account is none" in the splits filter.

yes this should be the solution.

but: otherwise when someone bought a gift the split is 50% transfer with the category and 50% none. right?
i still get no value in my category.

workaround: 50% in transfer and category none and 50% in my gift category.

any idea to make this cleaner?
