I am trying to create a split transaction for entering a share dividend. I need to enter the dividend amount but need to deduct the tax due, Can this be done in the same transaction or do I need to create two separate transactions for this?
Thanks.

Yes you can do it in the same transaction, one positive split for the dividend and one negative split for the tax.

I have tried what you suggested but I must be doing something wrong. If the total dividend is 100 and the tax is 30, how do you compute the net Dividend to 70?

The amount of the transaction is +70, the amount of the first split is +100 and the amount of the second split is -30.

I still can’t get it right. I have a dividend voucher and I want to enter a gross income of 189.77, a Tax of 28.47 and a net dividend of 161.30. Where do I have to put these numbers?
Thank you again for your help.

You create a transaction and put 189.77 in the amount field, then you add a new split and set the amount of the new split to -28,47.

Many Thanks. That worked.

Another problem. I assigned a category of "Taxes" to the -28.47 amount during the creation of the split.
How do I assign a category of "Dividend/Interest before Tax" to the 189.77 and a Category of "Dividend/Interest after Tax" to the 161.30? I had already created these categories. Thanks.

You assign his category to the first split.

This category is not compatible with the other 2 so you can't assign it.

The program is not allowing me to assign this category(189.77) to the first split. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
